Foundation Week 3/7: Most Disappointing Foundation - Clio Nudism Water Grip Cushion
Confession time: This will be the first time anyone will hear any of my thoughts on this product, and I feel so bad because I pushed and goaded two friends to buy it as I had. You just get validated when people buy the same things as you do. I don't like to do it for every single thing I buy, because I know my taste is weird and I buy a lot of trash items, but I really put all my eggs in this basket.
When I gave in to Clio Nudism Water Grip Cushion SPF 50+ PA+++ in 03 Linen (12g / KRW 30000, PHP 1550) hype machine, I was so confident and locked in with my answer. I felt like even if I couldn't spend that much money, this was definitely the right thing to spend on. All the hype by the locals surely meant something? If anyone knew BB cream it would be Koreans. And eveeeeryone was so hyped about Clio Nudism.
The Hype Machine
The Clio Nudism has a lot of things going for it. The tension pact format was certainly interesting. So we're used to seeing BB Cushion foundations held in sponges, right? But Clio Nudism is in a tension pact; which is basically more porous, fibrous version of a sponge sealed in by a wider honeycomb mesh. It looked cute and the way the cushion stamped on my face was so interesting, until I realized that this largely open design was the reason why all the testers in-store were dried out, and why mine dried out in a matter of months. It kind of held on in Korea but just up and disappeared here in the Philippines. I wasn't able to get as much use out of this cushion, and of all the cushions I've tried, this was the second ever to dry out - the first being a well-worn and overused Laneige cushion.
Formula and Coverage
The swatches leave pigment with some cute globules of water and it's just so cool to play around with but I feel it's playing on smoke and mirrors. It's very cute and is a huge part of what drew me in. It feels and smells nice, but as for the actual performance of the foundation?
It's a huge mix of good and bad. The BB cream is moisturizing while applying, but dries down to a dewy look-soft matte feel. That's the best deal you can get with BB creams! You want them to look wet, but not to have that sticky feeling all day, especially after your natural oils have surfaced. It looks skin-like and the glow doesn't tend to veer into oily territories.
I just have a problem with how it wears down. At first I was blaming it on the weather, and on my awful skin, but when I've exhausted all options I just need to admit that it's the foundation. It breaks down pretty quickly, and looks AWFUL while doing so. Some foundations just disappear, and I'd be able to tolerate that. This one tends to crease and crack horribly, even in places where my skin isn't that bad. Like, makeup is supposed to make me look prettier huhu Nudism wat is u doin? >,<
Beauty By Tellie Score: 2 / 5 - Has a lot of good things going for it, outweighed by bad ones
There's a lot of good things about Clio Nudism Water Grip Cushion. It feels like skincare and I think the water base would've been nice for oilier-skinned people. Wearing down quickly is not that big of an issue, as I'm more forgiving in terms of longevity with the retouch-friendly formulation and packaging of BB creams.
I just think it's a bit worse than average since it evaporates in the packaging, and looks creasy as it wears down. Overall, I wouldn't say it's a complete waste, but it certainly doesn't hold up vis a vis the hype machine.
Sorry, Jhe and Justine :( Nadamay pa kayooo T_T
