Skincare Snippets 2017-03: Trying Club Clio Goodal!

Early this September, I emptied my Coyori Face Oil and Coyori Rich Hydrating Lotion. It was a great experience, as the two items were quite light yet layered awesomely over each other. I finished the oil a few weeks before the lotion, and the lotion just did not feel the same without the oil :(

Now I'm ready to try something new for my moisturizing elements. Enter, Club Clio Goodal~

The Goodal line features water from Mt. Seorak, the third highest mountain in Korea. I never climbed this mountain, but everyone goes to Seoraksan in autumn because a.) Koreans are crazy about mountain climbing and b.) this mountain is said to have the prettiest autumn colors.

I think a huge factor to Korean skincare success is their use of local ingredients, particularly mineral-rich mountain water... And Korea has a fuckboat of mountains!!! I always say I love any skincare with Jeju, but what I really mean is that Korea's use of mountain water in skincare leads to consistently impressive results. Of about 20 random skincare sachets I've tried due to the generous sampling culture in Korea, the 3 that mentioned any mountain were huge hits. Funnily, it was even the clinical/lab-slanted brands that were more hit-or-miss!

So when I was sent the Goodal Moisture Barrier Fresh Gel Cream and the Goodal Moisture Barrier Fresh Eye Cream to try for my dry skin, I felt very blasé about until I read the literature and saw that it contained Mt. Seorak water.

Goodal Moisture Barrier Fresh Gel Cream (PHP 1450 / 50ml)

The Goodal Moisture Barrier Fresh Gel Cream (PHP 1450 / 50ml) is bluish/greenish in color and has some fragrance. It features lotus flowers so I'm not certain if the fragrance is artificial or natural, and my skin isn't sensitive to fragrance so I can't confirm by trial. Unlike most gel creams that tend to have a separated water and gel feel, this feels more like a moisturizing silicone-gel. It has a non-sticky and slightly smoothening feel but still leaves me with a thick kind of moisture that sits atop my skin.

I find it's a great topper over stickier and lighter skincare layers as the richness tends to form a comfortable seal. Like typical Korean creams, it's moisturizing but not deep-penetrating, but unlike typical Korean creams, Goodal Moisture Barrier Fresh Gel Cream does not tend to pill when used under makeup!

I swing back and forth with my opinion on the need for eye creams, but I recently found out that people actually develop milia when just spreading their regular skincare close to their eyes - which I have been doing! On one hand, it is feedback from an American beauty group meaning they likely use heavier, Western formulations compared to the lighter, made-for-layering skincare I've been using... but still. I'm glad I received a proper eye cream!

Goodal Moisture Barrier Fresh Eye Cream, with visible ceramide flakes

The Goodal Moisture Barrier Fresh Eye Cream's (PHP 1030 / 10ml) texture is highly similar to the Goodal Moisture Barrier Fresh Gel Cream. They are both a dry-setting gel, only that the eye cream feels way more watery when massaged into the skin. It also contains specks of 'ceramide', a pretty popular skincare ingredient in Korea meant for the driest of the dry. I find that when you can't layer, such as around the eyes, it's pretty useful to have a hard-working ingredient that you can carry in a lightweight formulation to prevent the aforementioned milia.

My favorite part of these two things is their level of hydration carried in a dry-setting formula. Since I layer so much moisture on my face, I'd almost forgotten that skincare can be comfortable as long as I apply the correct last step; an additionally hydrating but dry-setting cream like Goodall Moisture Barrier Fresh Gel Cream. An ultra-hydrating, ceramide-laden yet dry-setting eye cream like Goodall Moisture Barrier Fresh Eye Cream is great because it prevents the product from migrating into my eyeballs throughout the night!
