Basic Skincare and Office Makeup Workshop with KC FAPI

This is my second workshop to date and I just can't describe the thrill that comes with teaching people. I love sharing what I've learned because I remember being in that position. I remember starting my makeup journey and wanting to look great but always wondering how I could never achieve the refined-ness of looks I see on TV and magazines.

The registration booth

Knights of Columbus Fraternal Association Inc, a private office, contacted me through my father to do an in-house makeup workshop for their 40 female (and some male!) employees last September 4. During the negotiations, it became apparent to me that many of them were makeup beginners. I asked about the general level of beauty know-how of the would-be participants and the coordinators told me that save for a handful, almost nobody put on any makeup :o EVEN LIPSTICK :ooo

I've been deep into the Project Vanity Community where people can get pretty intense about beauty, so I had to re-evaluate and go back to the basics here. As a workshop moderator, there is a tendency to assume that everyone is working at a high level of knowledge simply because you're training so much in your own field. I'm really proud of myself that I was able to relate tips suitable to the KC FAPI ladies. I spent so much time on skincare and things I've never had to explain in ages; things like foundation type - skin type suitability! I take it for granted these days, but some of them didn't even know their skin type, and a lengthy discussion of that topic helps them more confidently choose new makeup products to try!

In the end, it was all extremely rewarding especially when they gave me a token of gratitude and a certificate of appreciation. Moreso, I heard people mumble intermittently during the workshop: "ah ganon pala dapat," or "ah, kaya pala" and it made me swell up that I'm able to empower these ladies with a choice. Whether they want to put makeup on everyday or not, it's still up to them. I'm just happy that after a workshop with me, ignorance will no longer be a stumbling block should they decide to be a little more adventurous with their daily looks.

Anyway, the coordinators reached out to me days after the workshop and updated me on how some ladies have started wearing foundation and lipstick to the office, and how one of them gave makeup as gifts to her friends

Another thing I'm really, really happy about is that two friends in the industry generously supported this workshop. Ellana Mineral Cosmetics helped the KC FAPI ladies get started on their first foundation by offering a discount code and individual sample kits which we shade-matched on the spot. They threw in generous kits of their best-selling Loose Mineral Pigment duos for the post-workshop raffle and a huuuge starter kit for the grand prize. Charm Brushes (via Beauty and Minerals) also gave a bunch of Pocket 5-Pc Brush Sets for the raffle and a Travel Pro Set in Suzie for the grand prize. Almost everyone walked away with a gift, and I was as excited as the recipients because it helps them open up to new experiences and practice what I shared with them. I used these products in the workshop so if they liked anything, I was happy that they were able to immediately try it.

Thank you for inviting me, KC FAPI!

Given how much I enjoyed this, I am launching a one-on-one makeup consultation service alongside my regular makeup services. This is for women who want to level up their personal makeup application skills and get better at trying different things on your their faces.

I'll be helping you with corrective techniques specific to your own skin type, face shape and work with you to achieve a more polished version of your everyday look. I'll provide constructive feedback as you do your own face, and then end with a demo of your custom look. Particular things like smokey eyes or applying falsies are also on the table!
