The Kid in Dad Video Shoot
Last June 10 I was booked for this video shoot. I was pretty nervous as it was one of my first gigs coming home, and most of my previous experience had been with print shoots. This was to be a video shoot, and an HD video to be projected across huge cinema screens at that :o. It sounds like nothing, but to a makeup artist you immediately get intimidated by the pressure to perfect details given the huge display.
I did hair and makeup for 3 actors and was really proud of the final product :)
I would say video shoots are less pressure than photo shoots because the actors are constantly in motion. You need perfect details, but not HD still photography level perfection. The problem comes with needing more-than-bulletproof makeup. The heat in open sets is insane, and even with models who don't sweat a lot, our climate will just coax all the sweat out of them. Even in a studio setting, the requirement of a perfect shot in motion requires so much movement that makeup just wears down faster as compared to print shoots.
At first, I was worried about the time element because all prior experience had been with HD shoots, which tend to be more generous with makeup time. I was happy to have been able to stick to their shorter timeline without sacrificing the quality of the work I wanted to give. The job also called for adult female, adult male and female child actors so I was happy to work with all kinds of faces!
I was also so happy to have my work shown across multiple cinemas - the video short was shown alongside pre-movie trailers for Ayala Malls :)
