Using Perla on my Brushes

Using Perla on my Brushes

When I was first using it, I didn't think much of the X Solid Makeup Brush Cleaner. It seemed a little better than average for me, until I started exploring more soaps (as mentioned in that review) and realized how many soaps were wasteful or downright ineffective.

I recall Xeng Zulueta's soap having a high coconut oil content, but I don't know where I got this information from, so I don't even know if it's true :| In the end, it was great at removing stains and wasn't too harsh/drying on my brushes. I took that awesome setup for granted???

Anyway, a few months ago, Perla did a media blitz re-emphasizing how ~amazing~ the high coconut oil content is, and I've been itching to try them for my brushes. Today is gonna be a ~sharing~ of that experience. But first, rant alert.

People are publicly raving about how mild Perla is on the hands and yet, so great on stains. Let's be real here guys: there is no way any stain-removing soap can be gentle on your hands. That's just not how surfactants work. It's either mild on your skin or effectively removes stains - pick one. I hear about so many people using Perla as a dish soap, hand soap, body soap, or even facial soap and I just roll my eyes wishing Darwinism would bear fruit much faster (thanks to Den for that lovely hirit!)

Anyway, on to Perla as a brush soap:

PHP 15 / 110g is really attractive. My soap dish is even more expensive than that o_o I was bothering everyone in the house about this price tag for weeks, as if they don't have an idea how much Perla costs! I was banking on the 50% coconut oil content to be enough to condition my brushes, because I hate mixing my own brush soap. But my natural bristles feel a bit more brittle with Perla compared to when I use my liquid soap + olive oil recipe, and Perla is not doing a stellar job of stain removal either. It's about a 2 over 5, as I can probably make do with it, but I fear too much for my brushes' longevity so I definitely won't keep using it on my brushes!

Instead, I discovered a great alternate use for it...

Perla as a Beauty Blender soap!

As bad luck kween, I dropped my Beauty Blender Soap in the toilet after 2 uses :[ I originally intended to chop up my Perla to slow down its melt, but I realized that the size is great for washing a Beauty Blender on? I've had little success using lather to clean the Beauty Blender, 'til I figured out that the best way to clean them is to use solid soap as a laundry board for the sponge under running water. This works great! The size of Perla is awesome for faster cleaning! And I love how the fragrance of Perla cuts through to keep it smelling fresh even while drying!

Final thoughts: Maybe I can shave down some of it (I have a 3-pack) to mix with water for my pre-soak, but I definitely can't use this alone on my brushes. I'm still on the search for a cheap but great brush soap, but I'm holding on to these bars for my Beauty Blender.
